A hat full of wild strawberries
We picked this hat full of wild strawberries Fragaria vesca yesterday afternoon - fiddly to pick but their taste and aroma are incomparable.
It's a big mistake to eat strawberries with ice cream - they need to be warm, to release the full aroma. We had these on porridge this morning. Wonderful!

Now that's a combination I've never tried!
ReplyDeleteBack in the day, when I used to go to the wholesale fruit and flower market in Manchester, the scent of strawberries at 5am on a June morning was exquisite. A world that has disappeared
ReplyDeleteHi John,
ReplyDeleteI can't think of any fruit that isn't best eaten when its warm. Chilling might not affect the taste, but it does inhibit the aroma. Yesterday I ate a very ripe apricot that had been warmed by the sun - apricots can be pretty tasteless, but it was fantastic...
Sounds wonderful, uphilldowndale. Whenever I can I buy fruit in markets rather than supermarkets - the stalls always look so attractive and they don't wrap everything in clingfilm. Our local supermarket even wraps small pieces of ginger in clingfilm!
