While I was sitting on the beach at Low Newton in Northumberland today, these swallows were hurtling up and down the strandline above the piles of dry seaweed catching seaweed flies. Several swallows flew so close to my head that I couldn’t help instinctively ducking, which explains why the pictures are a little shaky. They were using me as a turning point, whizzing around my head and then zooming off down the line of seaweed again.

Super action pictures, Phil. Your account reminds me of R. J. Mitchell watching the seagulls and going on to invent the Spitfire!
ReplyDeleteThanks Emma, I think if he'd been watching swallows he would have invented Concorde!
ReplyDeleteYou did a good job capturing them Phil.
ReplyDeleteThey are amazing flyers, the way they twist and turn.
Hi Keith, I took about 20 and those were the only two that were near to being in focus.
