I thought it was a bird dropping - and then it moved ......
At first, when I saw this on a gatepost I thought it was a bird dropping - then it started walking.
It's a lesser thorn-tipped longhorn beetle Pogonocherus hispidus, just 5mm. long. 'Thorn-tipped' because of those projections on the top of the wing-cases (elytra), looking like pointed shoulder-pads.

They do look like shoulder pads or epaulettes.
