I found this beautiful bolete amongst the old oaks in Backstone Bank wood, near Wolsingham in Weardale, this morning. Think it might be an oldish specimen of the cep or penny bun Boletus edulis, judging by the whitish edge to the cap - but not sure.

Stunning specimen , I don't think there is as many mushroom about as there was last year at this time, could it be down to the weather ?

Think it must have been that long dry spell in September - it seems to have taken longer for them to appear this year
DeleteWhether or not I see fungi is pretty random and depends on where I happen to go. I'll have to send myself to some woods!
