Cup Fungus

We found this exquisite little cup fungus when we were out walking beside Shittlehope burn near Stanhope in Weardale at the weekend. It's growing on shady bare soil in woodland and is about 25mm. in diameter. It's a Peziza species, but I'm not sure which one. The moss growing beside it is a Fissidens species.

  1. Peziza and Fissidens? Is that to eat in or take away...

Cute cup fungus, Phil - resembles the carved wooden cup they call a kuksa.

  2. Peziza sounds so appetising. The cup looks like the dough cup made for samosa!

  3. If it was a ceramic in a gallery I'd probably buy it Rob....

  4. Hi lotusleaf, small fungi are often damaged by slugs but this one was pristine...
