Signs of Spring: Arum maculatum leaves
There's a long way to go yet, and cold weather is on the way, but this is something I look forward to at this time of year - cuckoo pint Arum maculatum foliage spearing up through last year's dead leaves and beginning to unfurl.
Lovely shot Phil.
ReplyDeleteGot plenty of these bursting through the ground round here at the moment.
I've seen some with leaves fully expanded Keith - they seem pretty early this year..
DeleteFully in leaf here in Somerset Phil and now it's hailing, fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteI think we are heading for a stop-start kind of spring Andrew...
DeleteMy laptop is struggling to get pictures onto its screen today so I can see nothing here except an empty square. (Will return!) However, it's a good reminder to go and look for the Arum Maculatum which grown in abundance in the wooded areas near where I live. I too like them and always find them surprising, even though I see them every year.
ReplyDeleteHi Lucy, I've got them in my garden and they are slowly spreading around - birds must be eating the berries and dispersing the seeds.
DeleteI shall go and check the local population on Monday. Hope the cold doesn't get them.
ReplyDeleteI think they are pretty tough toffeeapple, which is interesting because most aroids are sub-tropical or tropical....
DeleteA beautiful shot at mouse's view angle! Love it.
ReplyDeleteThese little pocket digital cameras are great for getting ground level perspectives, aren't they Blackbird? A bit hit-and-miss sometimes, though, because the autofocus can be a bit random......
