I gather that local authorities are often under pressure from tidy-minded members of the public to mow verges, even when they don't particularly want to do it. There was a fine specimen of columbine (most likely a garden escape but nice nonetheless) near Tow Law last year that was minced by mowers before it could set seed and liven up an otherwise dull verge.Philhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15609107148344256875noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4998479738444661160.post-89736566180862089372011-07-06T20:56:32.199+00:002011-07-06T20:56:32.199+00:00Hi rmt365, it's infuriating when this happens ...Hi rmt365, it's infuriating when this happens isn't it? Very destructive to animals too - I saw a slow-worm a while ago that had been mangled during pointless verge trimming.Philhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15609107148344256875noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4998479738444661160.post-32537554849302403242011-07-06T20:54:19.363+00:002011-07-06T20:54:19.363+00:00Couldn't agree more lotusleaf...Couldn't agree more lotusleaf...Philhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15609107148344256875noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4998479738444661160.post-85659696752405178402011-07-06T20:53:54.041+00:002011-07-06T20:53:54.041+00:00Probably the tallest, densest spotted orchid I'...Probably the tallest, densest spotted orchid I've ever seen Claire - amazingly varied, aren't they...?Philhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15609107148344256875noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4998479738444661160.post-67901847573716817672011-07-06T08:42:32.221+00:002011-07-06T08:42:32.221+00:00Hi Phil

They must be quite resiliant as they have grown up again and are coming into flower. I will post some pics if the roadside doesn't get mown again.abbey meadowshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13293023923907992548noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4998479738444661160.post-24300072468738764562011-07-05T19:48:01.592+00:002011-07-05T19:48:01.592+00:00For the last three years I have complained to our ...For the last three years I have complained to our local council about cutting down Southern marsh orchids on road verges. OK they may have crossed with common spotted orchids but this makes them no less valuable. This is in an area called Big Moor in derbyshire which has recently been taken over by the RSPB in association with the National Trust so hopefully in the future we will have more protection for these fine plants.artehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17687544479824312028noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4998479738444661160.post-21612554456963176302011-07-04T20:37:23.256+00:002011-07-04T20:37:23.256+00:00WOW,thats so gorgeous,an amazing specimen XXWOW,thats so gorgeous,an amazing specimen XXClairehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04662262765034384467noreply@blogger.com
