Sounds like a hideous beast! There are several other flatworms that have been brought to the UK from the Antipodes via the horticulture trade and there are some quite serious infestations now in some localities. best wishes,
PhilPhilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15609107148344256875noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4998479738444661160.post-21973011058439428122010-11-17T20:55:04.348+00:002010-11-17T20:55:04.348+00:00Hi, I live in Fort Worth, Texas, where we have bee...Hi, I live in Fort Worth, Texas, where we have been invaded by a similar species, but from the tropics. I first found it under my children's wading pool and thought it was some horrible parasite. I put it in a jar and screwed a lid on, took to Dept of Agriculture for identification, and it had disappeared out of this tightly sealed jar! Just evaporated, impossible! So I drew a picture and described it. They didn't have a clue what it was. Took me two years to track down identification.
PS Ours is uglier than yours - BIGGERSharonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15708608765511093918noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4998479738444661160.post-41844519546746627912010-10-16T08:07:00.721+00:002010-10-16T08:07:00.721+00:00They're the Houdinis of the flatworm world, ve...They're the Houdinis of the flatworm world, verminous intoxicationPhilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15609107148344256875noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4998479738444661160.post-69517160848768140382010-10-16T04:49:47.092+00:002010-10-16T04:49:47.092+00:00wow they are amazing.... that they can escape scre...wow they are amazing.... that they can escape screw top containers? so amazingUnknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11810782361190446816noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4998479738444661160.post-59392034661178199872010-06-17T20:28:31.055+00:002010-06-17T20:28:31.055+00:00Hi Lesley, you've taught me a new word!Hi Lesley, you've taught me a new word!Philhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15609107148344256875noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4998479738444661160.post-65823398299937520792010-06-17T20:27:08.375+00:002010-06-17T20:27:08.375+00:00Hi Keith, I certainly wouldn't want them in my...Hi Keith, I certainly wouldn't want them in my garden. I've heard various theories as to why that haven't fulfilled the dire prophecies - killed by hot summers or cold winters, for example - but neither of those seems very convincing. as with alot of alien introductions, I guess that eventually they reach an equilibrium with the native fauna.Philhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15609107148344256875noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4998479738444661160.post-87414155566320388952010-06-17T08:45:57.923+00:002010-06-17T08:45:57.923+00:00I hope I never come across one.... it'll send ...I hope I never come across one.... it'll send my scoleciphobia raging again! I remember when they first appeared, although not the end of the world, the end of the earthworm was predicted.Johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10289405027710339067noreply@blogger.com
